Notice to our longtime supporters of the Churchville Lions Club Birthday Calendar.
After many years, we are no longer going to run this fundraiser. Times have changed with the Computer Age and Smart Phones.
We thank you for your years of support of our Calendar fundraiser and hope that you will continue to support the Country Fair, Winter Fest and Music Fest, as well as our Lions Medical Loan Closet.

The Churchville Lions Club April 28 dinner meeting promises to be a very special occasion. We have finally managed to corral Ryan Chalmers with a date for a presentation on his 2013 ” Push Across America”. Ryan is Lion Bob DeNormand’s grandson and he is truly an outstanding and extraordinary young man. Born with spina bifida and forced to use braces, Ryan is now an elite track and field athlete and was a member of the 2012 London Paralympics Team USA. In 2013 he embarked on a 3300 mile ( Los Angeles to New York City ) wheel chair adventure to raise awareness for the capabilities of disabled youth and young adults. His trip took 71 days through 16 states and on April 28 we will have the opportunity to ride along with him. Now a Mentor Ryan keeps very active as a motivational speaker and role model as well as a PADI Certified DiveMaster. Veteran Lions will remember the time when the Sunday morning of our August Country Fair started with a 5K run, walk and roll to raise money for the Rochester Rookies, a wheel chair team of disabled individuals. That is where Ryan started his incredible push to compete at the highest levels despite his challenge. Ryan now travels extensively and this is a unique opportunity to experience his journey across our “America The Beautiful.”
Spouses and significant others are also encouraged to attend to hear Ryan‘s presentation. You all know the seating capabilities of the Johnson House and be aware that we are also opening up this invitation to our general Riga community. That means there will probably be a cut off number for attendance so PLEASE make your dinner reservations early so that you guarantee your inclusion. The deadline for reservations is April 22. The dinner that evening will be the Johnson House specialty – Chicken French and the cost is $ 17.00.
Also feel free to spread this message to neighbors, former Lions, friends, etc. Any questions or concerns, please contact Lion Marty.
Check out this story about how a local girl’s life was saved after she had an abnormal vision exam when the Bloomfield Lion’s Club performed vision screening at her local elementary school. Although this story broke in March, I thought it was a cool testimony about how Lion’s serve. It was covered by WHAM news and Lions International. Check out more on this story at http://lionsclubs.org/blog/2015/03/18/brianna-leitten-speaks-about-ldun-experience.
This past week, Pete and Nancy Neidrauer received the Citizen of the Year Award by the Greater Churchville-Chili Chamber of Commerce.
Thank you to all who came out an participated or cheered at this year’s Leo’s vs. Lion’s Benefit Basketball Game. Almost $6000 was raised for Tim Miller’s family. Tim Miller is a teacher in the Churchville-Chili Middle School and Boy’s Varsity Basketball Coach. He is currently on a leave from his teaching/coaching responsibilities as his wife battles with breast cancer.
